Web traffic and Affiliate Marketing

What is affiliate marketing?  Think of Amazon.com.  When you visit various sites on the web, isn’t it common to see banners or pictures or descriptions of books that link to Amazon.com, where you can buy the product?  This is affiliate marketing.

How does it work?  Say you are a small website owner.  You register your site with a big affiliate network, one you think offers products or services your own customers might be interested in.  Then you design links or banners and incorporate them into your site.  When one of your customers follows the link, they are able to purchase the product at a discounted rate.

As a business owner with a website, you too can take advantage of affiliate marketing.  By allowing other websites to register as your affiliates, you can get more web traffic and more potential customers. One affiliate does not necessarily have to be bigger than the other; two small websites that offer related goods and services can follow the affiliate marketing model in order to help each other grow.

Since 1996, affiliate marketing has grown into a huge force for web commerce.  Now there are affiliate networks to join, networks that manage affiliates for big companies and allow you to become an affiliate of several websites at once. 

It all comes down to creating and building relationships between you and your customers, as well as others in the web advertising community.  Affiliate marketing essentially means making more connections and rewarding those who help facilitate those connections. 


More Internet Traffic Means More Business

When it comes to internet traffic, there are really only two ways to get it:  listing your site with the major search engines or becoming an affiliate for other web sites.  Why not have the best of both worlds and take advantage of them both?

When you list your website with major search engines like Info-seek and WebCrawler, potential customers find you by doing keyword searches.  Nearly all internet traffic flows through one or another of the 10 to 12 major search engines.  Just make sure your web copy contains effective keywords, and your site will come up in the searches and direct potential customers straight to you.

Affiliate marketing is another very effective method of increasing internet traffic, but fewer sites take advantage of this.  Offering to allow other sites to become your affiliate, to link banners or photos of products you offer to your website, will increase your exposure and your potential customer base.  When someone follows a link from an affiliate to your site, they can buy the product at a discounted rate.

Combining search engine registration with affiliate marketing is the most effective way to increase your internet traffic.  And when more people visit your site it means more potential customers, more potential sales, and more potential profit. 

Many sites list with one or two search engines and call it a day.  You do not have to make this mistake.  It took a great deal of time and energy to create a professional, user-friendly website.  Now it’s time to focus on getting as much internet traffic directed to your site as possible.


Simple Steps to Increase Web Traffic

You’ve created your website and you know you must promote it, but how do you increase web traffic to your site?  When your potential clients and customers surf the web, how are they going to find your site amid millions of others?

The vast majority of people who use the internet to shop for goods or locate services use one of the 10 to 12 major search engines, such as Yahoo, Info-seek, WebCrawler, or Ask Jeeves.  Ideally, you will register your website with all of the major search engines, thereby increasing your web traffic potential.

Once your site it registered with the major search engines, you must make sure that your web copy will provide keywords that will match to relevant searches.  That is how web traffic works.  For example, you will want to include copy with keywords that describe the goods and services you offer.  That way, when potential customers do keyword searches, the search engine will direct them to your site.

Search engines are like roadmaps for the web, and having your site registered with them is like posting a sign for web traffic to follow right to your door.  When potential customers locate your site through search engines, they are looking specifically for you.  That means increasing not only your quantity of web traffic, but the quality of your web traffic as well.

Once your site is listed with the search engines, visit them and type in keywords as a potential client might.  Where does your site show up in the search?  Is it buried deep in the results?  This research will help you correct weaknesses in your web copy, so that your site shows up close to the top of the search, and more web traffic flows into it.
